Suttle Projects have completed the installation of new navigation markers at Selsey Beach for Chichester District Council.
Suttle Projects took advantage of low tides to simplify the installation of the new markers. The methodology chosen enabled the works to be undertaken as efficiently as possible to minimise cost whilst ensuring the absolute safety of the public using the foreshore and beach.
If the ends of the groynes are not clearly marked, they pose a risk to various sea users because they are periodically submerged each day. A timber pile with a coloured beacon is used to provide a line of sight to provide safe navigation.
Chichester District Council has 37 marker beacons along the open coast and these are routinely inspected by Trinity House (General Lighthouse Authority) to ensure compliance with the maritime regulations. If any of these beacons are either missing or are beyond repair, they must be replaced to guarantee mariner safety.
