Combining Car Parking and Rail Expertise to Simplify Interchange Parking

Suttle Projects can simplify carpark construction when working on projects around the operational railway through meticulous up-front attention to detail, buildable designs, and clear communications throughout planning, execution and handover.

As a direct supplier to Network Rail, holding our own Principal Contractors Licence we have extensive experience in the timely submission and securing Network Rail 3rd Party approvals. These will guarantee new station car park projects can be delivered on schedule with all quality and safety requirements met.

Suttle Projects Managing Director Joe Paine commented “Car park construction and working around live operational environments such as a live railway station requires very close and engaging relationships with multiple stakeholders. It is vital to understand their needs and ensure every step is taking in a timely manner to apply and obtain the necessary third-party licences and approvals that can potentially risk the project’s completion.

Having worked nationally in frameworks and discrete projects from Yorkshire down to the south coast we have carefully honed our procedures and training. We ensure our project teams are well supported and have the autonomy to blend innovation with experience to deliver better civil engineering solutions with more certain outcomes in these typically complex operational working environments.”

Crescent Car Park – Taunton

Crescent Car Park was situated in a town centre location and required the existing parking facility to be transformed into a pleasurable public space that would support the wellbeing of residents and visitors, and where people would feel safe to enjoy the local attractions. The £1.4m refurbishment project provided 168 car parking spaces with several accessible parking spaces, dedicated motorcycle parking areas and 19 electric vehicle charging points.

When unforeseen ground conditions were encountered, proactive solutions were created and promptly implemented to avoid any impact to the client’s programme and budget.

Stokes Bay Car Parking & Sea Wall Reconstruction

Improvements to car parking was a key element of the £752,000 Stokes Bay seawall and promenade reconstruction project.  In the project debrief, our client highlighted that our collaborative approach and open communication were key successes factors for the project, adding “Suttle Projects demonstrated a proactive attitude, offering effective solutions to on-site issues and their open and consistent communication throughout the project enabled timely resolutions of both site and commercial issues.”

Working in Live Railway and Station Environments

Suttle Project railway experience includes Frameworks working within comprehensive safety and quality requirements directly for Network Rail. The Structural Integrity Southern (SIS) Multi Contractor Framework provided preventative and emergency maintenance of Network Rail infrastructure. Such was Suttle Projects reliability and creativity that 313 of 579, 54% of all Framework projects, were awarded to Suttle Projects. Thereby delivering more projects and providing better value than all the other SIS Framework suppliers combined.

Suttle Projects have been also appointed to the CP7 Framework Minor Works Drainage & Earthworks Framework for the Network Rail Southern Renewals Enterprise (SRE). To date we have been awarded forty project remits covering a wide and diverse range of projects. Three of these have already been for emergency earthworks responses, projects where the operational railway was potentially compromised until the issues were resolved. Requiring a very prompt and impactful design, formal submission, approval and delivery responses, to ensure the railway would be back up and running as soon as practically and safely possible.

Works Delivery Manager for Network Rail commented: “We are proud to put forward Suttles Projects for the awards, recognising their exceptional performance during our recent emergency project at Colhayne. Demonstrating remarkable resilience and expertise, the team worked diligently under considerable pressure and tight timescales to deliver. Their commitment to excellence was evident as they mobilized effectively to the site following the initial emergency call out and weekend possession work, ensuring a seamless execution that met the urgent demands of the project. Suttles Projects exemplifies the highest standards of professionalism and dedication in the construction industry, making them a deserving candidate for this award.”
