Suttle Projects are simplifying a complex and logistically challenging scheme to enhance future resilience of the sluice channel infrastructure connecting Poole Park and Poole Harbour in Dorset.
The project will deliver new flood control measures that will improve safety and environmental performance of the sluice system and in doing so enhance public amenities and protect one of Poole’s most important green spaces.
Suttles Project Manager Enad Gammoh commented. “The project has required very close and detailed collaboration with the local authority, Network Rail, and our supply chain partners to deliver this sustainable, long-term solution. All activities have been conducted under a Network Rail Basic Asset Protection Agreement (BAPA) licence due to the proximity of the railway and to strict safety and environmental management measures.
The works involve the construction of a temporary access road through Baiter Park, removal of an existing concrete bridge deck and replacement of the existing sluice channel with 3.5m x 3.5m precast box culvert sections. To enhance long-term performance and resilience, the works include the in-situ casting of a reinforced concrete apron and wingwalls, with a trash screen installed to protect the structure and maintain smooth water flow.”
