Some examples below evidence how our in-house creativity has delivered major cost and programme benefits to our customers.
At the Arne Moors biodiversity improvement scheme, Suttle Projects were appointed to construct an outfall structure that plays a vitally important role in controlling water levels on the completed scheme.
When excavating material from within the cofferdam, unanticipated ground conditions were encountered. As the proposed formation level was approached, the ground water began to rise, flooding the works area and preventing construction of the new reinforced concrete structure.
Responding immediately to rectify the situation, the in-house design team devised a system of ground pressure relief wells, which were installed inside the perimeter of the cofferdam. These were highly effective in dispersing the floodwater and preventing further ground water ingress from below the proposed structure.
At Crescent Car Park Taunton Suttle Projects were appointed for a town centre improvement creating 168 park spaces, accessible parking, dedicated motorcycle parking areas and 19 electric vehicle charging points.
Suttle Projects’ prompt creativity addressed unexpected site issues and resulted in significant project programme and cost savings.
The project was faced with a substantial increase in the anticipated level of ground contamination and a creative solution was developed that enabled the contaminated material to be maintained safely in situ. The adoption of a thinner pavement construction depth also lowered the volume of material to be disposed offsite, reducing the number of vehicle movements required, and subsequently optimising the reconstruction costs and programme.
At Poole Bay Sea Defences part of the Poole Bay Beach Management Scheme, Suttle Projects were appointed as Principal Contractor by Bournemouth, Christchurch, Poole (BCP) Council to undertake the replacement of 20 timber groynes in Poole Bay, along with exploratory investigations for the repair and upgrade of Hengistbury Head Long Groyne. The work phases totalled £5 million in value and the work was undertaken over several winter working periods.
As the phases of this programme were tendered progressively in stages, we were able to secure subsequent awards by capturing new creativity and best practice from each completed section and incorporating those benefits into more effective processes to demonstrate efficiencies across each subsequent phase.
The emphasis place on creativity to simplify delivery has been recognised once more with an award for seven new timber groyne renewals, now taking place through the winters of 2025 and 2026.
