Sustainable outcomes is a priority in simplifying projects for our customers; this will range from minimising disruption to people’s lives, ensuring we identify and protect sensitive locations and continuously shrink our environmental footprint and that of the projects we undertake.
At Stokes Bay East Seawall Replacement we were able to provide an alternative solution that avoided the disposal of 220 tonnes of waste concrete and we were also able to create 350m2 of vegetated shingle habitat.
At the Langport Embankment Emergency Scheme Less than 0.4% of the project’s waste went to landfill, this was achieved through our careful and proactive management in the importation and sustainable disposal of 90,000 tonnes of temporary works material. This solution included creating an onsite quarry and recycling facility with localised processing enabling 15% of waste material to be reused back into the permanent works. In addition, by creating a valuable recycled product, we were able to supply the local construction industry, with the sales receipts fed directly into the project cost savings.
At the DNaire Fish Pass Schemes designs had to meet many ecological and environmental parameters. 3D visualisations were created to ensure the potential impact of the proposed designs were properly considered and design packs prepared for each location. In such challenging working environments, our up-front attention to detail had to ensure that all the requisite permissions, approvals and licences were proactively obtained, and that all stakeholder agreements were in place in advance to meet the required timescales. Planning permissions were required for each site, EA National Fish Panel approval, flood permits and risk assessments and architectural and heritage constraints were also required. Missing any one of these requirements could have potentially delayed the project completion.
